Jenny's Chocolate Chip Cookies

Ingredients:

2/3 cup shortening (part butter or margarine)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour*
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup chopped nuts
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips

Prep time: 2 hours
Yield: 4 dozen

Preheat oven to 375º.

Mix shortening, sugars, egg, and vanilla thoroughly. Stir dry ingredients together; blend into shortening mixture. Mix in nuts and chocolate chips. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until delecately browned. (Cookies should still be soft.) Cool slightly before removing from baking sheets.

* For a softer, rounded cookie, add 1/4 cup more flour.
