Tory's Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients:

Cake:
2 oz. red food color
3 Tbs. Nestle's Quik
1/2 cup Crisco
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 whole eggs
1 cup buttermillk
2 1/4 cups cake flour, sifted 5 times
1 scant tsp. salt
1 Tbs. vinegar
1 tsp. baking soda

Icing:
1 stick oleo
1/2 cup Crisco
1 cup sugar
3 Tbs. flour
2/3 cup milk (room temperature)
1 tsp. vanilla

Prep time: 1 hour 30 minutes
Yield: 10 servings

Cake:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease and flour three 8" cake pans.
Mix food color with Nestle's Quik and set aside. Cream Crisco and sugar. Add eggs and Nestle's Quick mixture and beat a long time. Add buttermilk, cake flour, and salt. Add vinegar and mix well. Add baking soda and mix well.

Bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Icing:
Cream oleo, Crisco and sugar. Add flour, one tablespoon at a time as you beat. Add milk and vanilla and beat until fluffy. Beat and beat some more.
